Clinton secured its self a first round playoff game at home tonight with a 49-7 victory over Newcastle.
The Red Tornadoes came out a-blaze, scoring twice in the first quarter. Both scoring drives were attribute to their phenomenal back-field duo of Delans Griffin, and Saul Pina.
Griffin had 119 yards on touchdown runs alone (he also had a defensive touchdown; a fumble he picked up and ran 35 yards to pay dirt). Overall Clinton rushed for 449 yards.
It was an unfortunate night for Newcastle as they saw their running back, Blake Riojas leave in an ambulance in the first quarter. Riojas seemed to injury his neck on a red zone campaign. Another huge blow to the Racers came when starting quarterback Brent Ramirez broke his collar bone. Newcastly did get a late touchdown in the form of a one-yard run from Jordan Langley.
Newcastle finishes the season 4-6.
The Clinton Red Tornadoes round out the regular season with a 7-3 overall record (District 5-2) and will host Pauls Valley next Friday.
