The Casady Cyclones ended a five year drought Friday night defeating Heritage Hall 7-0 in double overtime. Koby Scoville led his Cyclones to the upset victory over the defending 2A state champions in thrilling fashion to win his first ever Polo Bowl.
After both teams struggled to move the ball during regulation, overtime provided all of the excitement. In the first overtime Heritage Hall had the ball first. On fourth down Cale Courtney scrambled left broke a few tackles and came all the way across the field and just before his dive for the pylon, the sophomore's right toe hit chalk and he was ruled out of bounds at the one. The Chargers came away with no points.
Casady had its hold and after three straight runs up the middle, on came Andrew O'Bannon who won the previous week's game with a time expiring kick. The junior kicker's attempt barely made it over the linemen and the game headed to a second overtime.
On the first play of the second overtime Casady quarterback Cale Shivers rolled to his right and found Travis Hibdon just inside the chalk in the end zone for the touchdown and Casady led 7-0. After runs by Barry Sanders and Tanner France, Heritage Hall had it third and goal inside the one. However the quarterback exchange between Max Naifeh and Cale Courtney was fumbled and Casady jumped on it to secure its first Polo Bowl win since 2003.
