Tonight the USA National team looks to closeout this years World Cup of Softball with their fourth consecutive championship.
Monday afternoon Jennie Finch made her last international pitching start for team USA proudly leading the red, white and blue to a 3-0 win over the USA Futures team. That game was postponed from Sunday due to rain.
Finch threw a three-hit shutout while striking out 12 in her final start from the mound. That game also featured a two fun homer from Jessica Mendoza to push the national team over the USA Futures.
Nevertheless, Monday is all about the championship game. That matchup pairs team USA against Japan at 8:00 p.m. Monday.
Monica Abbott will pitch for the stars and stripes in tonight's game. Finch, who also plays first base could come in relief for Abbott if needed.
Team USA is the number one seed in the tournament entering the championship game despite losing to Canada 5-2 on Sunday. Japan then topped Canada in the night cap giving the USA National team the top spot.
despite a Sunday outing that saw the ISF 2010 Women’s World Champions fall to Canada. The Americans lost 5-2 at the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Hall of Fame Stadium but still clinched the No. 1 tournament seed when Japan topped Canada 4-0 in the night cap.
