Uihlein Receives McCormack Medal

KSBI News

OSU's Peter Uihlein has been named the fourth recipient of the Mark H. McCormack Medal, which is presented to the top-ranked golfer in the World Amateur Golf Ranking at the end of the amateur season and following the European and U.S. Amateur Championships.

The Cowboy junior has enjoyed a memorable 12 months. He was a member of the winning 2009 United States Walker Cup squad, posting a 4-0 record against Great Britain and Ireland in the biennial event.

During the collegiate season, Uihlein won three times and was named a first-team All-American. In December, he posted the first of his major amateur victories at the Dixie Amateur, before winning the Sahalee Players Championship earlier the summer. The Orlando, Fla., native capped his summer by becoming the fourth player in school history to win the U.S. Amateur last Sunday.

Uihlein has been No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for the last three weeks and for a total of 12 weeks in 2010.

The award is named after Mark H McCormack, the late founder of sports marketing company IMG and an avid supporter of amateur golf. It is presented annually by The R&A, which is based in Scotland and serves as golf's governing body and organizer of The Open Championship.
