The Carl Albert Titans won the 5A state championship in 2009 and although the Titans return a lot of talent, they did lose arguably the best quarterback in the school's history. Head coach Gary Rose told KSBI J.T. Realmuto (who became the third round pick of the Florida Marlins) was probably the best quarterback he had coached at Carl Alber.
Realmuto is not all the Titans lost, they also are without a few big defensive linemen and the best athlete on the team in Tre Porter. However, Coach Rose still believes this year's team has the talent to develop into another contender.
The quarterback position will be battled for by a pair of juniors. Taylor Hawkins and Dillan Dansby are both very talented and neck in neck during fall camp, but one will have to emerge as the man.
Whichever one that is will have a lot of pressure relieved because of a big and experienced offensive line to block for him and to block for Kenton Whittington. The senior running back was very good last season and is only expected to get better in his final year as a Titan.
The Titans may be replacing a few key positions on both sides of the ball, but until someone removes them from the throne Carl Albert is the favorite to repeat in 2010.
