The Oklahoma Sooners find themselves near the top of college football again heading into the 2010 season, something that has been customary under Bob Stoops. OU is ranked seventh nationally in the preseason AP Top 25 poll.
The Sooners received 1,104 votes to fit in the seventh slot coming off an injury plagued season that led to an 8-5 record. However, Landry Jones saw valuable time in Sam Bradford's stead and will help propel him potentially to one of the top quarterbacks in the country.
Oklahoma is sandwiched between a pair of Big 12 rivals as the Texas Longhorns are ranked fifth in the nation and Nebraska falls in a slot behind OU at eight. Speaking of the Longhorns, the Red River Showdown has been announced to have a 2:30 p.m. kick-off in Dallas.
The Sooners will play a pair of team's in its non-conference portion of the schedule who also received votes. Florida State is ranked 20th in the poll, while Cincinnati is the first team out, receiving the most votes of any non-ranked teams.
Oklahoma State received three votes in the pre-season poll, which effectively has them at 42 in the country. Three other big twelve teams, Missouri, Texas Tech and Texas A&m, also received votes. The Cowboys and Sooners both start their seasons on September 4th.
