DeMarco Murray holds the keys to the Sooner offense this season, no he is not playing quarterback, but if the senior running back can stay healthy and have a big season the Sooners will too. Murray had a break out season as a freshman, but has been riddled with injuries since.
Wednesday the senior running back was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list, an award given to the top running back at the end of the season. Although he has been hurt often the past few seasons, it has not kept Murray from putting up staggering numbers through three seasons at OU.
Murray, a senior from Las Vegas, Nev., enters this season has one of the most prolific yardage gainers and scorers in OU history. He has rushed for 2,471 yards and 35 touchdowns, while hauling in 86 receptions for 977 yards and eight TDs. His 43 kickoff returns have resulted in 1,213 yards and two touchdowns.
Head Coach Bob Stoops said entering camp that he plans to feature Murray in the offense and could get an Adrian Peterson type number of touches. With Murray they will not all rushes as he has shown the ability to catch the ball out of the back field and make plays as well.
Oklahoma State's Kendall Hunter was also named to the list.
