Nuggets Make Statement Against Thunder

KSBI News

A night after completing a three game home sweep of below .500 teams, the Thunder went on the road and met a hungry and waiting opponent. The Denver Nuggets made a statement Wednesday night that the Northwest Division went through the mile high city.

Denver held a nine point lead at the half and then left no doubt in anyone's mind with a pure domination in the third quarter. The Nuggets outscored the Thunder 31-12 in the third period to affectively end the game, winning 119-90.

Carmello Anthony led the Nuggets with 30 points, while teammate Nene chipped in with 20 points to lead the Nuggets to the easy win. The spark plug off the bench, J.R. Smith had 18 of his own to help propel Denver.

For the Thunder, Kevin Durant struggled, scoring just 19 points on only five made field goals. The all-star did make seven of his nine free throws but was held under 20 points for the first time in over 30 games. Russell Westbrook was also held down scoring just 11 points and dishing out six assists, while turning it over four times.

In the extended minutes a few members of the bench played well for Oklahoma City. James Harden scored 19 points, making three of his five three point attempts and also canning ten free throws. Serge Ibaka also benefited from the extra minutes scoring 15 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, one of his best outtings of the season.

It does not get any easier for the Thunder as they travel to Los Angeles to play the world champs, the Lakers, on Friday night.
