The Thunder rolled through a three game home stand, wrapping up a sweep by outscoring Sacramento last night 113-107 at the Ford Center. Now the road calls. Stops to come by the end of this weekend in Los Angeles (Friday) and Sacramento (Sunday), but tonight OKC challenges the Northwest Division leading 39-21 Nuggets at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Scott Brooks' squad does so just 2 1/2 games off the Nuggets front-running pace a season high 13 games over the .500 mark at 36-23. The Thunder are now in the month of March picking up steam offensively, knocking down 50+% of their field goal tries three games running, running it up at 113ppg over the winning streak. Good thing that the Kevin Durant (29.8ppg) and Russell Westbrook (16.7ppg, 7.9apg) are on top of their game offensively because Denver is the league's third highest scoring team, pumping in nearly 112ppg at home where the Nuggets are virtually air tight at 25-5 this season. Denver does come in having lost it's last two slumping with the ball, failing in fact to get to 90 points in back to back losses to the Lakers and Suns. Both of those games were played on the road. The Thunder will have to contend with four-time All-Star small forward Carmelo Anthony (28.6ppg), five-time All-Star point guard Chauncey Billups (20.2ppg, 6.0apg), rugged rebounders Kenyon Martin (11.9ppg, 9.5rpg) and Nene' (13.8ppg, 7.9rpg) and explosive sixth man J.R. Smith (14.9ppg) in a stern test. Denver figures to be loaded for bear to snap it's skid and while it rested last night Oklahoma City labored until the final seconds before hanging on to knock off the Kings. These two teams have split their initial two head to head encounters this season, each winning at home. The Thunder last won in Denver in March of 2007, dropping five in a row in the mile high city since. In order to breakthrough tonight OKC must do a solid job protecting the basketball and be mindful of getting back in a hurry to protect the paint as the Nuggets love to run at home frequently triggering their fast break by forcing turnovers. If the Thunder can find a way to ward off fatigue and get a handle on Denver's diverse and explosive offense they can lean on the fact that they are 17-12 on the road this season and have won five of their last six away. Add to those notes the fact that key Nuggets reserves Chris Andersen (right knee tendinitis) and Ty Lawson (left shoulder contusion) may not play and the stage may be set for an Oklahoma City attention grabbing upset.
