Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played February 1-7 the NBA announced today. Westbrook is coming off a near quadruple double in the team's most recent win over Golden State.
Westbrook helped lead Oklahoma City to a 3-0 week, including two wins on the road, averaging 19.7 points, 9.7 assists, 8.0 rebounds and 3.3 steals. On February 6, Westbrook had an NBA season-high tying and career high eight steals in a win at Golden State. Westbrook increased his season averages by 3.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists while increasing his field goal percentage by 6.3 percent. This is Westbrook’s first Player of the Week award this season.
The second-year guard, who is participating in the 2010 T-Mobile Rookie Challenge, is averaging 16.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists (8th in the NBA), 1.18 steals and 35.0 minutes in 50 games.
