Favre Arrives in New York
Brett Favre was introduced as the new starting quarterback for the New York Jets. Favre joined the team Thursday afternoon after the Green Bay Packers traded him for a conditional draft pick. It was the three time MVP's first meeting with his new teammates, and he says he's looking forward to playing his 17th season in the Big Apple.
"It goes with out saying, things that have happened there this off season, in the past few days in my opinion are over and done with," said Brett Favre, NY Jets QB. "I wish them well. I'll use their term were moving forward."
Favre then was on the sideline for the Jets preseason game against the Browns. He watched as backup Brett Ratliff connected with David Clowney who takes it 71 yards for the touchdown, one of two long scoring connections for the duo. Jets go on to win, 24-20.
Giants v. Detroit
In other preseason action. the defending Superbowl champion New York Giants got back to work; taking on Detroit. Lions Jon Kitna connects with Roy Williams for the 20 yard score as the Lions won the game 13-10. Eli Manning went a miserable two for 19 and played only two series.
Saints v. Cards
Saints got their pre-season off on the right foot beating the Arizona Cardinals 24-10. Drew Brees had a touchdown pass. Play of the game; Tyler Palko hits Robert Meachem for the long pass; Meachum breaks a few tackles and he goes 60 yards for he score.
KC v. Chi-Town
The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Chicago Bears 24-20. Larry Johnson gave the Chiefs the early lead with the short touchdown run. Rex Grossman looked sharp as he threw a 25 yard td to Garrett Wolfe.
PGA Championship
And it's the PGA's final major of the year. Round one of the PGA championship. Phil Mickelson sinks the nice birdie. He finished tied for 8th at even par. Sitting on top of the leaderboard after one day was Robert Karlsson. He shot a two under 68; tied for the lead with Jeev Milkha Singh and Andres Romero.
Play of the Day
We'll stay at the PGA Ship for this one. Vijay Singh at the 8th, his 3rd to the par four. He pitches it about ten feet past the hole, then pulls the string and it comes back to the hole and drops in for the birdie. The nice roll comes away with our play of the day.
