The University of Oklahoma Football Team held their annual media day in Norman today. The pre-season USA Today No. 4 Sooners had much to say about the upcoming season.
"That's the true test," said Brent Venebles, defensive coordinator. "You know they look good running, they look good testing, can even look good in the spring, but the closer to the season that you get in those live situations, as a coach, that's where you put a place of value on what they can do."
Those live situations begin August 30 against Chattanooga, Tennessee.
"Right now we'll do some quarterback run game or draw or reads as we go, but you're gonna see a couple big tight ends out there because they're good players," said Kevin Wilson, offensive coordinator. "You're gonna see a multitude of some talented running backs, the schemes in some way might remain similar because that's just our team."
The coaching staff says depth will help take the pressure off post season success. Nic Harris says he hopes to thrive on it.
"For the most part I look at it like 22 players came out and 22 players lost," said Nic Harris, Senior safety. "Pressure allows you to play 15 percent better or worse, hopefully I play 15 percent better."
Starting quarterback Sam Bradford also had a quote to throw in. He says he does not believe in the 'sophomore slump'.
"If you believe in something it's gonna happen," said Sam Bradford, So. quarterback.
Bradford says after a positive summer, leadership is what he'll need to lead the Sooners to success.
"I did have to force a little bit," he said. "You know, I'm not a real loud guy so I had to you know stepping up and saying things that you know last year I wouldn't have said."
The big topic amongst media and fans is the newly closed practices. Offensive coordinator, Kevin Wilson, says 'it doesn't help our team out at all' to have the practices open. There will only be two open practices; one on Friday August 8 and also Monday August 18.
