Cubs Over Brewers
Chicago's Alfonso Soriano led-off the 3rd by taking C.C. Sabathia yard to take a two-nothing lead, but in 7th Milwaukee's Ryan Braun tied it at four a piece with this solo jack. The game stayed knotted at four until the 9th, when Derrek Lee put Chicago on top for good with this RBI double. Lee was three for five with three RBI's on the night as the Cubbies topped the Brew-Crew 6-4 to take a two game lead over Milwaukee in the NL Central.
Yankee's Lose Two on Monday
In New York, the Orioles man-handled the Yankees 13-4. Kevin Millar and Ramon Hernandez hit these back-to-back jacks in the 2nd and Baltimore's Adam Jones added a grand slam in the 6th as New York dropped their 2nd straight. Even worse news for the pinstripes as earlier in the day they learned that they will be without five-time all-star catcher Jorge Posada for the rest of the season. Team officials announced Monday that Posada will have season-ending surgery on his injured right shoulder, crushing any hope of his return for a post-season push. Posada's recovery is expected to take at least six months.
Horton Moves to No. 1 Spot
Big news for Oklahoma Beijing Olympian Jonathon Horton. Paul Hamm withdrew from the Olympics yesterday due to hand and shoulder injuries. So, Horton now moves up to the No. 1 spot on the men's gymnastics team.
Donaghy to Prison
The disgraced NBA official Tim Donaghy was sentenced in federal court today. Donaghy was handed a 15 month prison sentence after pleading guilty to receiving thousands of dollars in payoffs for gambling tips.
Play of the Day
The Mets are in 1st place in the NL East division. Two games ahead of the Marlins. Jeremy Hermida hits a pop up into foul territory. David Wright runs to the wall and makes a nice catch over some standing fans for the 2nd out of the inning. Great hustle, great concentration, and a great play of the day.
