The rules in Arena Two Football are quite different from the regular NCAA or NFL football that you might be used to watching on TV. The most obvious difference that you might notice in viewing this game is the field. The surface is 85 feet wide and 50 yards long with eight yard end zones. The goal posts are nine feet wide with a crossbar height of 15 feet. The goal-side rebounding nets are 30 feet wide by 32 feet high beginning at 8 feet above the ground.
The next most ovbious change that you will observe is the player formations on the field. There are eight players on the field and the players play both offense and defense, with a few exceptions. Four offensive players must line up on the line of scrimmage. One reciever may go in forward motion before the snap. Three defensive players must be down lineman. One linebacker may blitz on either side of the center. There are four 15-minute quarters with a running clock, except in the last minute of each half.
The movement of the ball and scoring is somewhat different as well. Teams have four downs to advance the ball 10 yards. Six points for a touchdown. One point for a conversion by place kick after a TD. Two points for a conversion drop kick and run or pass after a TD. Three points for a field goal by placement. Four points for a field goal by drop kick, and two points for a safety.
You will never see a punt in Arena Two because it is illegal. Any kick off, field goal or pass that rebounds off the net is live. Any kickoff that goes out of bounds and is untouched is placed on the 20 yard line or the place at which it went out of bounds, whichever is more advantageous to the offensive team.
