Chef Walter's Strawberry & Banana Smoothie

Strong bones make strong girls who become strong women. Young women need plenty of exercise and calcium to assure that they ward off osteoporosis in later life. Women are especially vulnerable to calcium loss throughout their lives so developing strong bones early on is especially important for young girls.

Breakfast is an excellent opportunity to add some calcium into your diet. Milk and calcium fortified cereals, fruit flavored yogurt or something as simple as a cheese snack; all add valuable calcium to your diet.

Try this fruit and yogurt smoothie to help jumpstart your morning.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup orange juice

1/2 cup plain, low-fat yogurt

1/2 small, peeled ripe banana

1/4 cup stemmed, sliced strawberries or frozen strawberries

honey to taste

Directions:

Place all the ingredients in a blender. Blend on high speed until smooth.

Makes 1 servings

Nutrition information per serving; serving size one serving; 160 calories, 1g fat (0g saturated fat), 11mg cholesterol, 72mg sodium, 37g carbohydrate, 6g protein, 2g fiber
