Violent crime rates jump in Tulsa, OKC

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Federal statistics show violent crime rates increased in 2008 in the state's two largest cities, including a 17
percent jump in Oklahoma City.
The FBI's Uniform Crime Report released Monday shows Tulsa also saw an 8 percent increase in violent crime from 2007 to 2008.
The only other Oklahoma city listed in the report - Norman - saw a 5 percent decrease in violent crimes during the same time period.
In both Oklahoma City and Tulsa, the increase in violent crimes appears to be driven by double-digit percentage increases in
aggravated assaults. Those numbers jumped by 23 percent in Oklahoma City and nearly 11 percent in Tulsa.
