High winds from Thursday night's storm left behind a big mess for a metro school.
A portion of the roof at James Dennis Elementary in northwest Oklahoma City blew off. Several classrooms also suffered damage.
According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts were up to 75 miles per hour at one point in the evening hours.
The storm peeled the roof off of the library and main classroom area. The principal and a cub scout group were inside when the storm hit but nobody was injured.
"In terms of the physical structure of the building, we're talking the roof, we're talking about the air conditioning units the ceiling tiles, the floor tiles, everything that needs to be replaced we're talking about a minimum of $1.5 million," said Steve Lindley, Putnam City Public Schools spokesman.
Putnam city has made plans to move students to other schools for at least a month while the repairs are made.
