A 14-year-old boy shot his16-year-old sister in the face at their home on Village Drive Tuesday. Neighbors say the brother and another young male relative ran to a next door neighbor's house for help. The girl and the two boys then waited for police and emergency vehicles to respond. The grandparents and guardians of the teens were not home at the time of the shooting.
Michelle Austin, a neighbor who has lived in the neighborhood for 25 years says she thinks the incident was purely accidental.
"They're all related you know, the two grandchildren and then I guess the nephew. They're all related and friends so there's no way it could have been malicious," Austin said.
Norman Police Captain Tom Easley says the boy will not face charges if the shooting was accidental. He says investigators are interviewing witnesses and the 14-year-old to find out what happened.
A Norman Regional Hospital spokesperson says the girl is in stable condition and will probably be admitted for observation.
