OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Severe weather brought strong winds and heavy rain to parts of Oklahoma, causing some damage to homes and businesses and knocking down utility poles.
There were no immediate reports of injuries with the storms on Thursday.
The National Weather Service says the highest wind gusts occurred in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, including a 75-mph wind gust about 6 miles west of Edmond.
Winds peeled off the roof of an elementary school in northwest Oklahoma, damaging classrooms and the library.
Putnam City School district spokesman Steve Lindley said several employees at James L. Dennis Elementary School, including the principal, were still in the building when the storm hit. Lindley says classes have been canceled for Friday.
Aerial footage also showed damage to fences, a church's steeple and to the roofs of at least two businesses.
