Oklahoma City Police are taking a second look at what appeared to be a hit and run accident. Investigators now believe someone may have intentionally hit Alan Spencer while he was riding his bike earlier this month.
The 56-year-old's body was found in a ditch on North Midwest Boulevard nearly two weeks ago. Now police are saying there is more to the fatal bicycle accident than just a hit and run. Police have turned the case over to their homicide unit, believing suspicious circumstances surround the cyclist's death.
Master Sergeant Gary Knight says this case is unlike an other fatal bicycle accident he has seen.
"It was a very unusual case, unusual enough that there might be something more to this than just a simple traffic accident," Knight said.
Knight says whoever struck Spencer from hit him from behing and hit him hard enough to kill him. He says there is no way the hit-and-run driver could not have seen Spencer riding in the middle of the lane. Knight says the skys were clear the morning Spencer was hit.
"Whoever hit him had a completely unobstructed view of him and could see him from a very long distance away, and it would be very difficult not to see him," Knight said.
Investigators have interviewed a number of people but none have been ruled as potential suspects. Police are hoping someone who knows something about the case will come forward soon to help put the case to rest.
