The Oklahoma City unemployment rate for the month of July was the second lowest jobless rate among large metropolitan areas in the country, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Oklahoma City's rate fell from 6.7 percent in June to 6.4 percent in July. Tulsa's rate was down from 7.9 percent in June to 7.5 in July. Lawton's rate also fell from 6.5 to 6.1 percent.
The Washington, D.C. area had the lowest unemployment rate in the country, at 6.3 percent.
Officials say that while the overall July unemployment rate for the state was up, rates in several Central Oklahoma counties were down.
Oklahoma County's unemployment rate dropped to 6.7% in July from 7% in June, Cleveland County's was down to 5.9% in July from 6.2% in June, and Canadian County dropped to 5.8% from 6.1% over the same time period.
According to the report, the unemployment rate in July rose in 176 of the nation's 372 largest metro areas, it dropped in 152 and was unchanged in 44.
