Man Gets Life for 'Pizza Delivery' Murder

KSBI News

A man involved in murdering a pizza delivery driver gets life in prison.  Prosecutors say the suspect and 3 others called a fake order to rob the driver but they took a lot more than the cash, and the pizza.

Zonte West, one of the men accused of killing a Papa John's delivery driver in November 2008 will spend at leat 38 years behind bars.  Today, Jeremy Moore's family told a judge how their lives have changed since the murder.

Dwayne Moore, Jeremy's father said, "I just hope the young man comes to a point of remorse, and he realized what he did by taking a human life."

West and 3 others called Papa John's to the abandoned Lantanna Apartments, so they could rob the driver and ended up killing him.  Jeremy was the father of a baby girl, and was working part time to make extra money to buy a house to raise his daughter in.

"Jeremy would've given them the shirt off his back.  If they'd asked for the pizza, if they didn't have the money, he'd probably given them spending money if he just asked him for it," Dwayne Moore explained.

West continues to deny his role in the crime.  Jeremy's family says the only closure they get is knowing West can't do this to anyone else.

Joshua Moore, Jeremy's brother said, "I had forgiven him a long time ago which is a hard thing to do, but make no mistake there's a difference between forgiveness and justice."

Two of the other men, Christian Holder and Rondell Griffin, involved in the murder await their sentencing.  The final suspect, Larry Stelly, is set for trial in October.
