Tuesday night's primary election results left two women very happy, soon Oklahoma will have its first female governor. Congresswoman Mary Fallin won the Republican nomination for the seat, while Lieutenant Governor Jari Askins was voted in as the Democratic nominee. Both women agree the race is not so much about gender as it is about qualifications.
"I'm running to be governor, I'm not running to be first woman governor. The good thing, I believe about the fact that it is Mary and I is that this now is not a race about gender, it's a race about qualifications," said Askins.
"Whoever is elected governor will be elected based upon their qualifications, based upon what they're going to do for the State of Oklahoma," said Fallin. "We're going to be running on my qualifications, my experiences and the different unique qualifications I have and will bring to the job," said Fallin.
Both candidates say balancing the state's budget and improving education will be key issues.
