A three-week-long manhunt for two fugitives, allegedly involved in killing an Oklahoma couple, has ended.
John McCluskey, 45, and Casslyn Welch, 44, were captured at an Arizona campsite around 7:00 p.m. Thursday. A U.S. Forest Service ranger noticed something looked odd at their campsite, so he approached the couple. He later notified authorities and they swarmed the area.
Investigators say Welch helped McCluskey and another man escape from an Arizona prison on July 30th. All three are connected to the killing of Gary and Linda Haas of Tecumseh. Their burned bodies were found in a charred camper in Santa Rosa on August 4th.
Officials say McCluskey was in a sleeping bag and was taken into custody without incident. Welch, who also is the inmate's cousin, wielded a gun but dropped it when she saw the SWAT team.
The Arizona Department of Corrections is preparing to release a report on a security audit of the privately operated prison from where the inmates escaped.
