A new program will help students sharpen their science and math skills and give them an edge in a growing field.
Oklahoma City Public Schools announced the opening of the Academy of Engineering program Thursday at Northeast Academy. Starting in sixth grade, students will be introduced to pre-engineering career fields.
The program will offer classes in introduction to engineering design, computer integrated manufacturing and civil engineering and architecture. This is the first program of its kind in the state.
"This is wonderful, I think this is a turning point for the OKCPS district. The Northeast is going to lead the way," said Karl Springer, OKCPS Superintendent.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Engineering is one of the occupations in highest demand in the country.
