Del City police will soon have a brand new station.
The ground breaking ceremony for the new Del City police department was Wednesday morning. The $3.5 million facility will have a new courtroom and a property room. It is located at 4517 SE 29th Street and officials said the funds for the project came from revenue from existing sales taxes.
Del City Police Chief Phil Taylor says both residents and officers will benefit from the city's newest addition.
"For police officers and citizens it's a great step forward in efficiency, and our ability to accommodate the needs of the community will be enhanced greatly," said Taylor.
The complex will be named after an officer who lost his life in the line of duty. It will be the first new building the city has built in more than 45 years.
