A recent supreme court decision could end up saving tax payers and state employees around $10 million, says Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland.
Holland challenged the passage of legislation that would have allowed a one percent tax on paid health claims. The bill was passed during the last few days of the legislative session and Holland questioned its constitutionality.
"Any tax or revenue measures is required to be passed by a super majority of the Legislature and this particularly failed to me that test," said Holland.
The findings could make the 2011 insurance premiums for state employee benefit plans about one percent lower.
