According to AAA, about nine percent more Oklahomans hit the road for the Labor Day weekend. The travel agency also says Monday may be the most dangerous day to drive.
More than 365,000 Oklahomans were expected to take one last summer vacation for Labor Day.
AAA Oklahoma spokesperson Chuck Mai says Monday will be the most dangerous day for those drivers.
"You've been partying for two or three days, you've been relaxed, you're guard is down. You're not quite as alert, you're not expecting the unexpected quite as much as at the start of that holiday period," says Mai.
Mai says more car crashes happen at the end of holiday weekends. He also says 40 percent of crashes surrounding holidays are alcohol-related.
In an attempt to keep Oklahoma roads safer, AAA has expanded its Tipsy Tow service to include more holidays and more cities.
This weekend, the agency will take you home and tow your car free of charge if you've had too much to drink.
"Maybe the driver's not completely drunk, but one drink can sometimes be too many. You can be impaired, you can lose that judgment," says Mai.
Mai says they expected up to 100 Tipsy Tow calls throughout the weekend. The service continues through 12:00 a.m. Tuesday. Call 1-800-AAA-HELP for a ride home.
