NCAA Tourney Brings in Big Bucks

KSBI News

Oklahoma City -- The NCAA tournament tipped off Thursday and some games were played right here in Oklahoma City.

This year, the metro is hosting two rounds of the men's and women's tournaments.

The men started Thursday at the Ford Center and OU will host a pair of first round games in the women's tourney this weekend.

Mike Carrier, President of the Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau, says the men's games alone will bring in an additional $11 million to the Oklahoma City economy.  He also says the airtime the city gets on national television is priceless.

"We're going to see a lot of air time Thursday, Thursday night and particularly Saturday that we could not afford to buy so it's very good for Oklahoma City," says Carrier.

An estimated 15,000 fans are in Oklahoma City for the men's tournament.
