Edmond, Okla. -- Edmond police are warning local churches to lock their doors tight. Two churches were broken into two days in a row. Those churches are now trying to recover thousands of dollars in stolen property. KSBI Thunder TV's Kealey McIntire has more.
A little less music will be made at Faith Bible Church. Nearly $8,000 worth of music equipment was stolen and it isn't the only church with problems.
Sunday morning, a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses noticed the side door had been tampered with. Moments later another discovery was made.
"That's when we noticed the front carpet, the oriental carpet in the front entryway," says Elder David Hackney.
The tile is now bare and you can also see the blank spot where the wall art once hung. The burglars also took candles and the candle holders.
Police say churches are at a disadvantage because often times few people are there.
"We're hoping that somebody may have seen somebody there when church service wasn't in session that would've looked unusual," says Glynda Chu, Spokesperson for the Edmond Police Department.
Hackney says it's unfortunate, but he understands why it happens.
"It's a fulfillment of Bible prophecy. Jesus said, Matthew 24:12, there would be an increasing of lawlessness. We understand that, although we don't like to see it affect us or anyone else," says Hackney.
Hackney says they're trying to beef up the locks on the doors to prevent more people from breaking in.
Police ask anyone with information to call Edmond Crime Stoppers at 359-4466.
