We are learning more about the deadly officer-involved shooting that happened Thursday morning.
We now know the name of the suspect - Tyler W. Hayes, 24, who was listed as a fugitive by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections at the time of the shooting.
According to the DOC, Hayes escaped March 8, 2010, from Oklahoma City Community Correctional Center. He was serving a five-year sentence for burglary and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
The names of the two officers, Clifford Damon and Timothy Campbell, were released earlier Friday.
Just after 7:00 a.m. Thursday, dispatch got a phone call that a woman's car was stolen. Officers spotted the vehicle near S.W. 89th and Kentucky. Hayes lost control of the car and the officers started shouting verbal commands but the Hayes rapidly accelerated. That's when the officers shot.
"Multiple shots were fired. The suspect was hit at least once. The Medical Examiner's office through their investigation will determine the exact number of rounds that hit the suspect," said Capt. Patrick Stewart with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
The officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the district attorney's investigation.
