Compromise Reached Over Uganda Aid Bill

KSBI News

A compromise has been reached between Sen. Tom Coburn and local organizations over a bill that would provide assistance to violence victims in Uganda.

The LRA Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act would keep the $40 million in the bill, emphasizing that the money should come from existing funds.

Protesters have been holding a round-the-clock vigil since Feb. 26th outside the senator's offices downtown. The strike later turned into a hunger strike. Protesters were asking the senator to debate with them.

In the past year Joseph Kony's Lord"s Resistance Army (LRA) has killed close to 2,000 people and abducted 3,000 more, including hundreds of children, forced to serve as child solders.

The Senate is scheduled to vote on the bill later this week.
