Board Fires Chief M.E.

KSBI News

The board that oversees the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's office has fired its chief investigator.

Dr. Collie Trant was placed on paid leave Monday. And the chief administrative officer at the medical examiner's office says he's told the board that oversees the office that Trant is a liar and inept.

The board didn't disclose the reason behind the decision to fire Trant after nine months on the job.

Meanwhile, the attorney for a pharmacist charged with murder says questions surrounding the state's chief medical examiner will help the defense.

Attorney Irven Box says the situation will help pharmacist Jerome Ersland.

Ersland is charged with first-degree murder of 16-year-old Antwun Parker during a robbery of the Oklahoma City pharmacy where Ersland was working.

Collie conducted the autopsy and has said the teen was unconscious from a shot to the head when he was shot five more times.

Ersland says he shot in self-defense.

District Attorney David Prater says he is monitoring Collie's situation.

The board that oversees the ME's office is holding a special meeting this afternoon. We will have an update tonight at 6 pm.

The initial robbery of the Reliable Pharmacy took place in May. Click here to see all the developments that have taken place since then.
