Honoring Our Veterans

Several Ceremonies Being Held Across The Metro

KSBI News

Thousands turned out to ceremonies to pay tribute to the men and women who have fought for our country.  KSBI Thunder TV's Kealey McIntire takes us to one of several ceremonies held in the metro.

Wreaths decorate two chairs on the lawn of the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum as dozens payed tribute to two Oklahoma heroes.  Airman First Class Lakesha Levy and Arman First Class Cartney McRaven were both inside the Murrah building when a bomb exploded 14 years ago.  Both were stationed at Tinker Air Force Base.

The ceremony's invocation speaker told the crowd, "Our time here today is to remember and rededicate ourselves to what this memorial stands for."

With heads bowed, eyes closed and heavy hearts, family members and colleagues remembered Levy and McRaven.

In an emotional speech, Major General David Gillett, Commander of the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center at Tinker Air Force Base, also remembered the victims of the tragedy at Fort Hood in Texas.  He says we should never forget the sacrifices of our veterans.

"Let us remember them all who served their country faithfully, especially the killed and wounded. Our debt to them is beyond measure," says Gillett.

Several other ceremonies also paid respects to the soldiers killed at Fort Hood and our nation's veterans.
