Guns Stolen in OKC

KSBI News

"This is obviously something we are very concerned about having the guns in the wrong hands," said Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow, Oklahoma City Police Dept.

Thirty-four guns stolen from this Oklahoma City home have police officers on edge. You can see how he got into the home, the owner believes the thief kicked in his back door and left  23-thousand dollars richer.

"It is possible with this amount of guns they could be taking them and selling them," said Wardlow.

Those in the firearm buying and trading business say some criminals try to sell stolen guns all the time but usually they get stopped in their tracks and they have to sell in the black market.

"That's a lot of firearms they probably have an outlet for them and it could be out of state," said Mike Rust, H&H, Manager.

Investigators are keeping in contact with shops like H&H and pawn shops to make sure the stolen guns aren't being sold. Officials say the man had been collecting guns for years and losing his collection has been devastating.

"It can be a real nightmare and it's really bad if some of them were family heirlooms," said Rust.

The owner did have all of the serial numbers for his firearms but they weren't in a safe. Rust says a safe that is bolted to the ground is the best way to store you're guns and remaining discreet is also important, so you don't become a victim.

"You don't want to advertise the fact that you have a large collection, beyond your immediate family and friends because word can get out there and you can become a target," said Rust.
