Healthy eating habits was today's theme for National Health Center Week. The Oklahoma Community Health Services was getting out the importance of nutrition. The nationwide celebration raises awareness about the services that health centers provide to low-income families. OCHS says it really helps that they have all kinds of services under one roof including dental, medical, x-rays, and lab work. Through the Patients Assistance Program, they get patients' medications for free and saved $200,000 last month.
Lisa Funderburg, the OCHS Outreach & Communications Mngr. said, "That's just a big impact for them because these are for people who need constant medication, and to save even $10 to them is going to be a big difference for whether or not they get to eat that night."
OCHS also wants people to know, in addition to accepting Medicare and Medicaid, they do a sliding scale for people who don't have insurance.
Oklahoma Community Health Services is locaed at 1025 Straka Terrace, south of I-240 off of Western. For more information about OCHS, other locations and hours of operation call 1-866-388-6688.
