New information on the barn thefts we told you about on Thursday. Police now have a suspect in custody. It turns out the suspect is related to the landlord of the property and how he got caught may surprise you.
Clay Masters had four of his saddles stolen. He says, "It's sad to me to have a young man that went that way, it's sad."
Police say Aaron Pearce, 18, is responsible for the thefts. Masters say the alleged thief is the grandson of the landlord.
Masters says, "If he had come to me and asked me for money, I would have probably given it to him. His grandparents are the same way. He didn't need to steal from us."
The suspect was caught after Masters attended an auction in Jones Thursday night. He thought maybe a stolen item would show up and Masters was right.
"Very stupid to turn around the next day and take it six miles down the road to an auction," says Masters.
Chief Tom Pletcher is with the Jones police department. Chief Pletcher says, "I think most thefts are stupid but in this case being that he's from this area, he took it from this area and then tried to sell it in the same area, I would probably put that pretty high on my list of not too bright."
Masters says, "I retrieved three of my saddles."
In all, 24 items were taken from three barns at "The Arcadia Downs Training Center." The total loss was estimated at about $16,000.
Masters is still missing one saddle but he's not complaining. He hopes the other victims will get back their items as well.
Masters says, "I'm the luckiest man in the world, I guarantee it."
Pearce was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on possession of stolen property with intent to sell.
