Wiring Brings Up-To-Date Information

KSBI News

It's getting quieter and quieter on the Kilpatrick Turnpike as the building continues to tie up some loose ends.  But the permit is ready, and equipment can be moved in at anytime.  If you remember the last time we were in the bathroom we had to use a spotlight to see anything, so the big things like running water and electricity are completely done.  Now it's just checking off those little things such as buffing the counter tops in the bathroom to get ready to move into the new KSBI.

The sounds of cleaning are the only thing heard on Morgan Road. A couple of electric and mounting boxes is some of the last work that's being done anymore.  Crews will come in Wednesday to re-drill anchors, and replace steel plates.

"Just basically doing some tune up, fine cleaning, getting it re-swept, mopped up good so it's presentable," said Supervisor Glenn Cunningham.  "The steel plates are covering the trench that run from master control into your broadcast area for you cabling out of your computers to your cameras."

But what you don't see are the lines of wiring that run throughout the building.

"It's going to be tedious now that we've already dropped the ceiling.  We've got cable trays up there and every box has a conduit coming out to it so it can get to the box pretty easily through the wall," Cunningham explained. "It's just chasing it over the ceiling tile and insulation can be quite a bit of a job."

A task that's important to bringing the most up-to-date information to viewers.  Soon, KSBI and the construction company will meet to sign off and turn over the building.

"When you get into extension of cat-5, cabling, all of that stuff everybody's trying to put everything in for the future. So they go put in things above and beyond to get a little bit extra in there," Cunningham concluded.

At least 60 lines are being pulled here to every room for internet and telephone.  We still have a few feet of this stuff left, but that's about it.  Crews just have to run wiring above the ceiling and below the floor, plus move in equipment and furniture out here to the new KSBI.  The 13,000 square foot facility will be three times the size of our current building.  You can always check out the progress on our StateCam located at the site.
