Oklahoma City -- It's been nearly one year since the December ice storm. OG&E has come up with a system hardening plan to help with future storms.
They want to harden up the system by swapping out old cable with new cable, reinforcing structures, and being more aggressive in tree trimming. Officials say this would help crews restore power quicker during future ice storms.
The six-year plan would cost $115 million. It would cost the average customer one to two dollars per month. OG&E Spokesman, Brian Alford, says the cost would be worth it.
"If we can help some of those customers that are in those neighborhoods that have a lot of trees or have a lot of potential exposure to ice storms or other types of storms, hopefully we can alleviate some of that," says Alford.
OG&E submitted the plan to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission Tuesday. They hope to have an answer within the next couple of months.
