Security a Top Priority at New Building

KSBI News

A lot of work is being done in the master control and production control areas this week.  That's because we're ready to move into the new KSBI-TV/ Thunder TV studios.  Some quick planning has kept the building away from any big problems.  In the last week we've seen a lot of different kinds of activity going on here at the new KSBI.  But one of the most important things put in is the doors because crews don't have to worry about what is left on site overnight.   Progress continues to roll along but without proper precautions crews could've been looking at major setbacks.

Supervisor Glenn Cunningham said, "We stared right off the bat we put in a pipe cable fence up, and we locked it down every night.

So far no thefts have happened at the site.   The KSBI StateCam provides surveillance, and now locking doors can let workers focus on the task ahead.

"You keep everything on the inside, once we were able to lock everything down on the inside we could manipulate what materials we kept in here, and only bring in what we need or what we were going to put up in the next week," Cunningham explained.

Master Sgt. Gary Knight of the Oklahoma City Police Dept. said, "Construction thefts are like any other theft, the more information we can get our hands on the more likely we are to solve the case."

But across the road, Jerry Scott had a lot of diesel gas stolen from an excavating truck in the middle of the night.

"Remote, it's a not very well paved road.  People don't want to drive down it except for a thief, that's kind of what I see" Jerry Scott, the owner of Scott Grading and Excavating described.

"Those things can be pretty hard to trace sometimes mostly because they're not marked especially gas.  How does a person go about proving that this gas was stolen.  That's times when you have to catch someone through surveillance, or have an eye witness," Master Sgt. Knight added.

A risk of the business to keep a fast growing area booming.

"It's always a concern that you're going to have a theft, but you can only do everything you can to eliminate that small step," Cunningham concluded.

As you can see one of the major additions in the last week does have to do with security.  They actually put up a fence around half of the parking lot to keep all the news vehicles, and live truck safe and sound.  Crews are still working with temporary power.  They hope to have the building inspected tomorrow, and get the meters up and running.  Then, they'll have lighting throughout the building, and be able to put in the rest of the ceiling.
