It's the home stretch out at our new TV station on the Kilpatrick Turnpike. Crews are almost ready to install some sets in the studio, and it's also going green. When you're driving by the Kilpatrick Turnpike here on Morgan Road you may not think a lot has been going on here at the new KSBI. The front has been finished, the asphalt is down, and the stripes are painted. Let's go ahead and take you inside so you can see that they're putting on some of the finishing touches, and we've even got some doors on now. Walls are painted, doors are on, and toilets are, well, mounted. What's left is above your head, and under your feet.
Supervisor Glenn Cunningham said, "They're getting all the grid work done, getting the lights put in, so we can get them covered up and inspected. As soon as we can get the power up we'll do the final field on the ceiling tiles."
Behind the building, by Morgan Road, is where a lot of the action is taking place. Crews work through the mud to find homes for some different projects.
"Now we're doing the landscape, we're doing the landscape pads for the propane being put in," Cunningham explained.
And a number of oaks, and pines are finding their permanent home. Landscapers will improve the irrigation, and bring the property back to environmental standards.
Mark Arian, the owner for Water-Tech Enterprises Inc. said, "This particular site we have about 2 dozen shrubs going in close to the building and the same amount of trees. Beautification, erosion control, revegitation, getting grasses in place so that the soil doesn't blow away."
Now, a lot of touch up work and moving equipment in lies ahead for the new building.
"We're down to the final stage where all the little things are coming together, and getting all the finish work," Cunningham concluded.
Crews will be able to come in and pave the last part of the asphalt late Friday afternoon. And then they'll let it dry for at least those 2 1/2 to 3 days, so it will connect completely from the building all the way to Morgan Road. Crews are planning to completely finish their work by next Friday, and that's pending any setback.
