A spooky situation in Oklahoma has police officers working overtime. It's rumored that the old Logan County Memorial Hospital is haunted, and some thrill seekers are breaking in to see for themselves. But authorities say trespassing isn't the best way to find out. The Logan County Memorial Hospital was built in 1946 in Northwest Guthrie.
"They did births, they did basically the things that hospitals do," Guthrie Police Chief Damon Devereaux said.
After it shut down in the late 1960's the activity's continued. Residents say this abandoned building is rumored to be haunted.
Mary Roberts, a Guthrie resident said, "My nephew who was 16 went inside once, and saw a pentagram on the basement floor, and they heard some scary thing. He came home crying, he swore he'd never go there."
Guthrie resident April Barnett said, "We've seen a few things, and sometimes I've heard a few things but that could just be me. We've seen lights on upstairs."
"Basically, it's this idea of an abandoned hospital that people feel could be haunted because people have passed away there, and their spirits are there haunting the building," Chief Devereaux explained.
In the recent weeks, Guthrie Police have arrested at least 10 people for breaking and entering.
"People like to experience the feeling the feeling of being scared," Chief Devereaux described. "But if you do break into the hospital and you do get caught you can go to jail."
Inside the old hospital there is always someone watching.
"They do have live cameras set up inside the building that our dispatchers will watch from time to time, and many people do watch the web-cams to see if they see anything," Chief Devereaux added.
And with the holiday tomorrow, Guthrie PPolice will be patrolling the area to prevent a haunting from happening.
"You can go online, watch it from the comfort of your own home. If you want to drive by and look at it, it's an interesting old building, but do not go inside of it. If its not yours stay out of it," Chief Devereaux concluded.
Chief Devereaux says he's never been inside the old Logan County Hospital. But the main reason is because, structurally, it's unsafe.
