The hot day didn't stop crews from making more progress on our new television station. They're still working hard on the outside walls with the roof being put on next week. Almost 3 sides of the walls are completely put up, all that's left is the east side here on the Kilpatrick Turnpike. It's a project that not just Oklahoma City can be proud of.
With no sheeting left for the walls Precision Construction Groups found ways to stay busy capping off a successful week.
Foreman Lance Pellegrini said, "Still got a little bit of daylight left so we're going to put in some valley gutter, and get this little wall ready to sheet over here. It's been great really, it's been really good. The wind got us a little bit for a day, but we made up for that."
Though the building is in Oklahoma City all the cuts, digs, and drilling can be heard from Piedmont.
Piedmont Mayor Mike Fina said, "We're standing in the Piedmont school district, and we're about a mile from the Piedmont city limits, so we feel just as attached to this project as anybody in Oklahoma City."
Mayor Fina says they may be even more excited about the project taking shape on Morgan Road.
"It will bring tax dollars into our school system which really helps, but the community feel," Mayor Fina explained. "The nature of this station with family broadcasting fits into Piedmont, it fits very well within our community."
So, the only locally owned television station in Oklahoma is bringing the same family values it was built on to a new part of town.
"A lot of folks in Piedmont watch KSBI just because of the local connection. You're standing in one of the fastest growing areas in the metro and the state. We've never had much media coverage out here and now we have a station that's right in the middle of it, so I think it will be a great benefit for our area," Mayor Fina concluded.
Narrow rows are being dug to put electrical wire in for the light poles. There will be 8 of them. With 75% of the walls put up at the new KSBI facility, they'll start working on the exterior walls inside tomorrow. Mayor Fina says having KSBI in the area will also benefit other smaller cities like Bethany, Yukon, and Mustang. You can always check out the latest progress from our StateCam that is on-site.
