The new KSBI building continues to push along. The progress is growing everyday, and becoming more visible for people who travel in the area. Crews are putting up a lot of double sided tape because they're sheeting about a 100 foot stretch of the building. They want to enclose it as soon as they can. The new KSBI quickly takes shape on the Kilpatrick Turnpike. The walls are going up as fast as the cars that drive by.
Foreman Lance Pellegrini said, "It's 21 foot tall and almost 100 feet down, it's about 90 feet down. We'll get it done pretty easy. Just put the double faced tape down like he's doing on the top and bottom, you drop your itch, tighten it, and put your sheet up there and screw it on, it's pretty simple."
Simple, yet sound.
"Keeps it insulated, gives it strength, those highs are corrugated. It sturdies up the building, the buildings plenty strong to start with, but this one will be bricked over so it gives them something to attach the brick to," Pellegrini explained.
Precision construction group says the building is about 4 months from being completed.
B.J. Dunn, the Chief Operations Officer for the construction company said, "From what I understand this might be the first new TV station built in Oklahoma in more than 20 years, so I think it's an opportunity that no other contractor really had, so we're proud to be part of it."
But in the short term, closing in the structure is the main goal.
"That way everyone else can do their thing and they'll stay dry. We'll get everything up and a roof on it and then the electricians can come in and keep everything dry," Pellegrini described.
Creating a new footprint by a local station with a coverage area unmatched in Oklahoma.
"You'll be able to see this it will stick out from the road (Kilpatrick Turnpike) there," Pellegrini concluded.
One area is already shaping up as the garage. They're stopping the sheeting near the window wells today because that area will require more attention in the next few days. Crews will start sheeting the south wall tomorrow, and hopefully put on the roof next week. You can watch the progress from our StateCam that is at the site on Morgan Road and the Kilpatrick Turnpike near Northwest Expressway.
