Oklahoma City -- It was an emotional day for one woman who is now considered a former city councilwoman.
Ward six council member Anna Simank, announced her resignation Tuesday. She served on the Oklahoma City City council for 13 years.
Simank's son will start Oklahoma City's fire training academy on Friday. He will be a city employee, meaning she must leave her post.
She says she is happy for her son, but she will miss working with city council and serving citizens.
"A lot of people think this is not a rewarding position, but I have found it over the years to be the most rewarding. Most every citizen has a good heart and they treat you really well and it makes you feel good to be able to help people," says Simank.
Simank says she plans to do community volunteering. She's already joined a couple of boards.
