You can now find Oklahoma City NBA gear in the metro. KSBI-TV told you Wednesday a few stores started carrying t-shirts, but you might have to wait if you don't already have one. KSBI-TV's Kealey McIntire has more.
It's a black t-shirt that says "Oklahoma City NBA." The design may be simple but its significance is anything but.
"Crazy. Phone calls off the hook," says Chris Doss, Assistant Manager at Hibbett Sports in Midwest City.
He says everyone wants to get their hands on the t-shirts. The store started out with 24 shirts Tuesday night and they had about 10 left as of Thursday afternoon.
"People come rushing in saying, 'y'all got the Oklahoma City shirts?'" says Doss.
Doss didn't think the shirts would even sell. They're a temporary design, but they have the same logo the Oklahoma City NBA team wore in the Orlando Pro Summer League.
Doss says fans can't wait to get their hands on what they're calling a collectors item.
"I think it's just the NBA. I think Oklahoma City is ready to have a sports team because of the Hornets. Everyone is just excited about it," says Doss.
Hibbett Sports at Quail Springs Mall sold out of their t-shirts in less than two days. Sheila Howard, the store manager, says they'll receive more t-shirts and shorts Saturday. All other Hibbett Sports stores in Oklahoma and select stores in Texas, Kansas and Arkansas also received the shirts.
Howard expects it to get just as crazy when she can fill up the empty rack again with OKC NBA gear.
"I love it when people come in. I love this kind of excitement, it's really fun," says Howard.
You can also find the t-shirts at Academy Sports and at Will Rogers World Airport.
