It's a boost for our local economy. On Friday, AAA announced plans to build a new call center in north Oklahoma City. The facility is supposed to bring more than 1,200 new jobs.
Pat Bloodworth is a AAA member. She also works in the Quail Springs area where it's anticipated the new facility will be built.
"We need more jobs in Oklahoma City," says Bloodworth. "We don't have anything like that around here and it would make it better."
Chuck Mai is the Vice President of Public Affairs for AAA Oklahoma. He says, "We continue to grow. We have 325,000 members in Oklahoma."
He says the jobs will pay competitively to other call centers in the area.
"They'll probably pay a little bit above actually," says Mai.
As for the new call center, it'll be nearly 200,000 square feet and four stories high. It'll also be an energy efficient structure that'll be consistent with the latest green standards and practices.
"It really will be beneficial," says Mai. "Especially, for AAA members who will benefit from more efficient and more effective service."
Bloodworth hopes that's the case.
She says, "When you leave your lights on and your battery runs down, you have to call them and wait so long. Maybe, they can get them here faster."
Construction will begin next month on the call center. It's slated to be completed by late 2009.
