Tulsa Couple Could Be Deported

Monday, July 16, 2007 Posted: 10:48 a.m. (CDT)

A married couple who illegally immigrated to the U.S. as teenagers could be deported, even though their four daughters are U.S. born citizens.

Wulfrano and Maria Portillo, both 31, separately crossed the border before they later married.

Wulfrano Portillos works as a roofer and fears he will not be able to provide for his family if he and his wife return to Mexico.

If forced to deport the couple plans to take their children with them.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper reported the Portillos to federal immigration officials last month after he found them trying to fix a blown tire on a highway near Locust Grove.

The Portillos are awaiting a date for immigration court.

The worst punishment they would face is deportation.
