A Look into Thunder Basketball

Monday September 29, 2008 7:00 p.m.(CDT)

"We don't wanna have a good team," said Head Coach PJ Carlesimo. 'We want to have a good franchise, and a good program. We want people to say this team plays hard, this team defends well, this teams plays together."

The quest to build a team that represents coach's foresight begins not today or tomorrow, but began during the off-season.

"I've been working hard this summer," said Kevin Durant. "Hard work brings success, so hopefully this year we become a better team. Everybody on this team has been working hard. We got here three or four weeks early you know just working out together getting used to the new city so I'm excited."

The team agenda this year is solid defense and fast-paced offense.

"As the point guard it starts with me because I'm like the head of the defense," said Earl Watson. "The ball is up top. I have to be aggressive and put pressure up top and then it filters from there."

"We have to play great defense," said Jeff Green. "We have to talk as a team and to win those games thats what you have to do."

While critics are stressing the abundance of youth, the team does not seem too worried about inexperience.

"To me its more exciting," said Carlesimo. "We've got young players that we can build from the ground up."

"You can't just come in and expect automatic learn everything, said Russell Westbrook. "I'm just gonna take it step-by-step and try and learn."

Expectations are to build a system that can sustain the NBA in OKC.

"Our expectations for all of our players is to come to work every day, be a professional, find a way to get better, be a great teammate and you know we play those games and each game we go back and try to find away to improve on to of that, said General Manager Sam Presti.

So, let the hard work begin, but coach says the hardest of work is over for players and fans.

"If its been said to me once its been said a hundred times; 'It's our team'," said Carlesimo.
