Putting Out Fires With Cold Fire

Posted: August 28, 2008

The flames were high in Norman today but for once these flames were on purpose. Officials with an environmentally friendly product called Cold Fire say this stuff is impressive.

"It out performs every chemical that I've ever seen," said Ray Giessler, Cold Fire Representative.

Take a look at this video- as these rubber tires quickly go up in flames. But in just about the same amount of time Cold fire puts the blaze out.

" I've fought fire tires before and they're hard to put out - so it seemed to put it out a little bit faster than just what water does," said Norman Training Chief, Rick Bacon.

Officials say it works on more than just tires. It can work as a safeguard on your clothing and can definitely be helpful when fighting a grass fire.

"Guaranteed it won't rekindle- you won't have to worry about it coming back again- you give yourself a window where if you knew the fire was moving a certain way you actually cut a fire line and wouldn't have to worry about the fire passing through it," said Giessler.

State officials were also on hand to see just what this product could do. With last week's train derailment explosion fresh in their minds- firefighters are eager to see a product that can extinguish ethanol," said Giessler.

"Homes could be saved, businesses. From brush fires to chemical fires- I think it's something everyone should have," said Giessler.

Bacon says, "it's been impressive."
